Busy days in Room 3

Come  and visit our Muritai Museum next week in the school library.

We went looking for shapes around our classroom and playground. We are learning about 2D shapes during Maths time.

During our literacy time we are learning to read quietly at our tables using material from our book boxes -we are learning to point to each word on the page.

We are learning to follow instructions  at the reading whiteboard table after our guided reading lesson. It's great fun writing on the table!!

We are learning to recognise the letters of the alphabet and place them on our word trays. Great work at reading time !

As part of our inquiry into Wellington Harbour we have been learning about the little blue penguins who make the harbour and the surrounding areas their home. We coloured, collaged and painted our own penguins. Great careful work everyone -they look fabulous !

On Wednesday we went to the STEM room to explore some ideas about how things float. At Muritai we have science kits available to explore some science ideas. We experimented with lots of different objects predicting first if we thought they would float or sink. If something is small will it always float ? If something is large will it always sink?Boats are big and they float so maybe it is the shape of the object or what it is made from that makes an object float or sink.

We made our own boats from tinfoil and had great success in floating them-some of them could hold lots of metal washers and one of two quite heavy things as well.We had lots of fun. Great work in Room 3.
