Cross -country Fun
Room 3
We are enjoying our visits to the Eastbourne Library. Thank you to all the library staff who always have wonderful stories ready for us!
Our bean plants are slowly but surely growing -we are making sure they have water and sunlight.! We looked at this wonderful sunflower, drew it and found the seeds. Come into Room 3 and look at our beautiful pictures.!
What a fabulous assembly last week! Room 3 sang and presented their beautiful penguin art work.Well done everyone from the Junior school.
What's new in Room 3 ?
We are learning to write the letters of the alphabet correctly.Using Play Doh we are taking real care with letter formation. This is one of our new reading rotation activities for the first 4 weeks of this term. It's a firm favourite !
We are working in our Letterland books on letter recognition activities. The latter, which involve pasting and cutting are completed independently. Our students are enjoying this sense of independence.
We tried something new at circle time this week -The Doughnut !!The aim of this is for the children to engage with their classmates (or talking partner )by looking at them directly and greeting them in te reo maori, and then sharing something of interest. The children on the outer of the circle then stand and move around to engage with a new talking partner. We have got some great ideas for talking topics. Rich oral language forms the basis of successful achievement in literacy and respectful listening is an extremely important skill. Well done Room 3 !
Our science based school wide inquiry "Eureka " has been launched with seed plantings and investigations into how plants absorb water. We placed white cabbage leaves into jars of water with drops of food colouring (yellow red and blue) and predicted what might happen over time. Some of us thought the cabbage leaves might change colour-and we were right !! the coloured water travelled upwards through the stem of the cabbage leaf.
Come into Room 3 and look at the new, interesting work we have been doing.
Welcome back to Term 2.
This term we have started to learn about 'Time' during Maths. We had some fun playing 'What's the time Mr Wolf'?
Our moveMprove programme has started. The fundamental movement patterns -namely Landing, Spring, Statics, Rotation, Swing and Locomotion are the basis of this programme.
Mr Power spent some time in Room 3 explaining how to use an app on our i-Pads called 'Scratch Jr 'which is designed to introduce coding skills to children. It was great fun!
We are beginning to learn about warm colours as part of our Painting focus this term.
What a great start to the term in Room 3.!
